008: a splash of hardware please
sharing some embellished items on my fall wishlist
Soo, welcome to the last week of August — don’t hate me, I’m just the messenger! I’m sure most of you will be annoyed by my next statement, but I’m seriously looking forward to welcoming autumn quite soon. Where I grew up, I’d say there were two seasons, not four. Eight months of the year, winter, the other four, summer. Skipping over spring and fall made dressing either exhausting or painfully boring. Basically you’d catch me bundled-up in my parka and snow boots or sporting a loose tee and shorts, you get the point, no layering (well at least not in a fun or chic way).
Now that I have proper access to all four seasons, I am generally inspired to make an effort all year around; although, my favourite time of the year to create outfits is undoubtedly the fall. Today, I was going to share my entire fall wishlist with you, but based on how overwhelmed I felt putting it together, I knew I could not throw my jumbled mess at you like that. Instead, I’ve broken it down into a few themes to share over the next weeks, with bite-sized looks into what I’m eyeing (and what you should be buying so that I don’t).
Let’s start with something at the forefront of my mind lately, anything with a chic and unexpected touch of hardware. I tend to gravitate towards pieces that are unique by silhouette or proportion over items with (usually) unnecessary embellishments. Think of The Row for example — collections are intriguing by form and styling, with rare but very intentional sightings of any added bling or hardware. To me, there’s a small window for timelessness when impractical or uncomfortable elements are added in the design process. However, when done right with a certain je ne sais quoi, like eighties to nineties Armani for example, that’s when I think something goes from timeless to truly special.

Let’s look at some garments, belts, bags and shoes that I think are done right:
Garments:
Carter Young Khaki Newman Buckle Jacket: I tried this on and desperately wanted to make it work — if your arms aren’t freakishly long like mine, I highly recommend this piece!
Navy Military Field Jacket: Hook and loop buckles are my fixation at the moment. Practical and chic at a great price.
Chaps Ralph Lauren Field/Barn Jacket: This nostalgically reminds me of my grandpa (big fan of Chaps Ralph Lauren). The colours, shape, claps, pockets - all perfect to me.
Kapital Studded Jacquard Jeans: I saw these at a local boutique this past weekend. After making some other purchases, my self-control shockingly kicked in, but I honestly can’t stop thinking about them and just might have to go back.
Vintage Armani Jeans Leather Jacket: One thing about me, I love vintage Armani (don’t we all) — a v good forever piece with just enough interest in the details.
Belts:
RRL Studded Leather Belt: My first thought when it comes to a fun embellished belt is of course Double RL. I especially love the details and colours of this one.
Martin Dingman Western Leather Belt: A good western belt is an easy hack to spice up any look, the colour of this one did it for me.
Stussy Suede Studded Belt: This feels like the Khaite Benny Belt’s cool younger brother. I am sorry that they no longer make this belt new, but luckily a couple of listings exist on ebay.
Celine Leather Belt: a classic belt with a beautiful buckle.
Lemaire Black + Antique Gold Clip 30 Belt: I have been debating this one for months (and now it’s on sale yayy)!
Bags:
Prada Buckle Bag with Studded Belt: If this fits within your fall shopping budget, I envy you.
Kiko Kostadinov Brown Inex Tote: I just came across this one and have a feeling it would quickly become my most used bag.
Lemaire Leather Tote Bag: Buckle detail is so subtle, but too good not to be on the list.
YSL Mombasa by Tom Ford: Kind of like the edgier vintage version of a Croissant Bag? also found another similar here.
Balenciaga City Travel Bag: So, I think it would feel wrong not to include a version of a City Bag on the list when we’re discussing hardware. I love the size, crinkled leather and aged hardware.
Shoes:
Prada Brogue-Detail Mules: These are VERY high on my fall wishlist. Love at first site when they appeared on the runway — I also love the fringe version and am undecided. Feel free to leave your opinion in the comments :)
Our Legacy Camion Mules: Incase your new here, I lovee a clog. I actually prefer their sans-buckle clog, but for this purpose I’ve included both.
Bode Bullion Star Shoe: I know these are an embellishment not hardware, but from a far they’ve got the look.
Marsèll Mandolo Loafer: I don’t know how I’ve never seen these before! There’s one pair left so someone run!
Gucci Horsebit: I’ve always loved a horsebit detail, in a silly way I really want a pair of furry mules but there’s I’d say there’s a pair for everyone on TRR.
Always appreciate you being here, and would love to know what your eyes are on this fall! See you again soon xx
Ciao,
Sam
